"Today, we award only the second Jefferson Award ever presented from Astronaut High School.
For those who have forgotten, the Jefferson Award is a very prestigious award for outstanding community service. Our second recipient is only a sophomore. This goes to show, you don’t have to wait to give back to your community. This person has contributed her time in many different areas. Whether cleaning up trash in our local parks or around town, stocking shelves of donated goods, planting trees or helping point people in the right direction, this person always wears a smile and enjoys giving back. In addition to giving back to the community, this person is a member of our SGA and also a member of our AHS varsity volleyball team.
Ladies and Gentleman please welcome our second Jefferson Award winner, Daron Drylie.” Astronaut High School, SGA

Endless Summer: Part Two
Scully: "Doug? Lifeguard Doug? Oh I didn't recognize you without your beach." ~ Beach Balls, 1988
Daron and her partner, Brandi, are enjoying playing beach volleyball this summer at Cocoa Beach Pier.
"Is this form good enough or what, Coach?"
I don't know about you, but I'm intimidated!

Endless Summer, Part One
“If you vote for me, it will be summer all year round.” Napoleon Dynamite, 2004
A week at the beach to start the summer off right. Part of the group heads to the shore to watch the sun set and build a sand castle.
The ladies do most of the work while the gentlemen look on, supervise and offer suggestions.

Michael, Brittany, Marsh and Daron enjoy the sunset on Crescent Beach.

Earlier in the week, Nathan proves he CAN fit into the baby seat of the grocery store shopping cart.

This news comes from Jim at the great blog Thinking Right.
Surely we can each write a supportive email to these sailors and send them some great love from home!
It’s time for a new Letters from Home project. This time I will be collecting letters for the Navy. I’ll be sending them off to the USS Russell — DDG-59. So, just like last time, please send generalized supportive emails to me, and I will make sure that they get to the men and women aboard the Russell. When you send your email, please be sure and put “Letters from Home” in the subject line. We’re aiming for about 250 emails, so I’m hoping to have them collected and packed up by the end of the month. As with last time, anything you all can do to help spread the word would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, they have their own blog there on the Russell. There’s some great writing going on there! Their crew gives you a good close look at life aboard a modern destroyer at war.
